Title by Mail

***IMPORTANT*** Please review the following requirements before you proceed:

Our office is unable to confirm receipt, or provide the status of a mail packet in person or by phone.

*NEW!* Provide your e-mail address within the mail packet, and you will receive status updates when your packet is received, and once it is processed or returned.

If an incomplete packet is mailed to our office:

  • We do not contact the customer to request additional documents/fees.
  • Customers do not have the option of coming into one of our offices to complete the transaction. All required documents, including the total fees due, must be submitted by mail.

If these guidelines will not work for you, the customer must schedule an appointment to visit one of our offices, and they will need to submit all required documents/fees in the office.

Mail packet

To process your title by mail, you must complete a mail packet. This mail packet will assist with successfully completing your transaction by mail.

Please review the following requirements before you proceed:

  • Certain transactions are not eligible to be processed by mail. For a list of these transactions and processing options, visit our Specialized Transactions: What You Need To Know article.

  • Once you initiate your transaction by mail, you must complete it by mail; you may not start it by mail and then complete it in person.

  • If submitting your transaction by mail, a mail packet must be completed. Paperwork not accompanied by a complete and accurate mail packet may result in delay or rejection of your transaction.

  • If you have already been placed on "registration only" status, inform your lienholder or lease company that we cannot process your title transaction by mail. If your lienholder or lease company mails the title to our office, it will be rejected and returned to the sender.

  • We do not offer expedited title service (fast titles) by mail. The title will be processed and mailed from the DHSMV in Tallahassee. Mailing time is approximately 10-14 business days from the date the transaction was processed.

  • For information on the Hope Scholarship Program, visit the Florida Department of Revenue's Florida Hope Scholarship Program page.

NOTE: Our office does not process or print electronic titles by mail. Read our electronic titles publication for information on how to convert your electronic title to paper.

Additional information for lienholders, lease companies and dealers

Please review the following requirements before you proceed:

  • If you initiate your customer's title work by mail, your customer must complete the transaction by mail; we will not notify your customer to come in person to process a title that you sent us. If your customer wishes to process the title in person, you must mail the paperwork directly to your customer instead of to our office.

  • If your customer wishes to add or remove a name, you must mail the title and applicable paperwork directly to the customer to complete the transaction in person at our office.

  • All titles submitted by mail for customers who are already on "registration only" status will be rejected and returned to the sender.

  • Titles mailed to our office by out-of-state lienholders to transfer to Florida will be returned to the lienholder. The title must be sent to the owner, who will be required to schedule an appointment to process the transaction in one of our offices.

It is highly recommended that you send your mail packet via overnight or certified mail. The sender is responsible for confirming delivery status with the mail provider (i.e., Fed Ex, UPS, and USPS).

The processing turnaround time is 6 business days from receipt of the mail packet.

*NEW!* Provide your e-mail address within the mail packet, and you will receive status updates when your packet is received, and once it is processed or returned.
